In late 1995 both David and Lance Burns became shareholders in Nova Graphics, triggering an exciting new era for the company. Guided by a top consultant in the printing field, Nova bought new presses, expanded its art department and streamlined workflow, which enhanced efficiency and profits.

In 2000, David and Lance were joined at Nova Graphics by brother Scott, a graduate of The Printing School Of Rochester's Institute of Technology. With his ideal educational background, Scott focused his efforts on expanding the company's production area, a role at which he excelled until 2003 when, tragically, he lost his life in an accident.

Today, Nova's Ann Street location boasts an 11,000 square foot facility that houses its vast printing presses along with a full bindery department and art department. Customers are assured that every job is personally inspected by one of the Burns brothers before it leaves the shop in new cartons. Nova maintains its own internal messenger staff for immediate job delivery within Manhattan, and shipping outside the New York Metropolitan area is available or, if a customer prefers, Nova offers a warehouse service, whereby jobs may be held and shipped at a moment's notice anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

Company History

Nova Graphics, incorporated in the state of New York, was founded by Barry Burns in 1960 as a typesetting house and print broker. Nine years later, Barry and his co-owners purchased their own printing plant, bringing Nova's artwork and print operations under one umbrella, although in two separate downtown New York City locations.

In 1973, an explosion next door to Nova's printing plant forced the company to relocate its presses to a new location within the financial district of lower Manhattan. Over the next 10 years, as business volume increased and the separate locations of Nova's two operations presented travel challenges for its employees, a decision was made to relocate the printing operation to 47 Ann Street, the company's present location which, at that time, was located around the block from the typesetting operation.

In 1985, David Burns, son of co-owner Barry Burns, joined Nova, transforming the storefront of the Ann Street location into a copy store. Amassing expertise in all functions of the company, within two years, David managed the entire operation. In 1988, David's brother Lance joined the firm, bringing Nova into the desktop publishing (DTP) age.

Barry Burns became the sole owner of Nova in May 1995 and, a month later, the art department and printing plant were combined at the 47 Ann Street location. Nova was finally under one roof!
